By almost every indication, the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV was a universal success, between the stunning reviews, massive sales, widespread controversy, and mind-numbingly idiotic crimes committed to (attempt to) obtain the game.
However, as with the release of nearly any title that reaches millions of hands in the span of a day, the actual game had a couple of hangups -- notably system lockups on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
After previously suggesting a multistep process to help alleviate such issues on the PlayStation 3, Rockstar Games today released a patch for the version, which is said to reduce strain on the GameSpy servers and thus eliminate the lockups. Rockstar further apologized for the inconvenience in a statement today, and resolved to continue monitoring the game for issues. No word yet on a similar patch for the Xbox 360 version, though with millions of players in a position to complain about potential issues, you've got to believe that Rockstar will find a way to make things right.
